Lakes of the Clouds Hut, NH 11 Miles Hiked Today 1833 of 2167 Miles Hiked Total

View from Mount Franklin A long day today. My friend David Saxby has joined me for a few days in one of the toughest areas to hike. Though slower than I, he did the 11+ miles with a great attitude. It was a tough hike. The upside is that the last four miles were above treeline and the views were spectacular. You could see for miles and miles. David said it was worth the climbing, which makes me feel good. This hut is only 1200 feet and 1.5 miles to Mount Washington so is in the middle of a lot of weather. I may have to hike in pants tomorrow!

David Saxby in "The Dungeon" at Lakes of the Clouds HutWe are sleeping in "The Dungeon" under the hut. It sleeps six in very tight quarters but is better than being in a tent. Its also only six bucks.

We also saw a moose along the road today. It was a young bull about 3-4 years old. Dave got lucky to see one on his first day here.
