Hexacuba Shelter, NH 12  Miles Hiked Today 1754 of 2167 Miles Hiked Total

A rainy (eventually) but good day. We did a big climb up Smart Mountain and had lunch at the top while talking with a ranger/ridgerunner/maintainer. Learned that they don't man the fire towers anymore because of satellites. Government satellites can not only see that a fire has started, but can also track or find who did it. I asked because we had just climbed an abandoned tower and were eating at the old fire cabin (now a shelter).

After lunch we hiked here. The shelter is hexagonal and has a hammock in it. I spent a couple of hours reading in it while it rained. It was nice and relaxing knowing I was dry and had beaten the storm up Cube Mountain. The smell of pine, raindrops, a cool breeze, and a hammock. A pure pleasure of life.

Since I have the time I thought that it might be interesting to list out what we usually do in a day. A typical day usual begins at 7:00 and ends at 9:00 with the following in between:

7:30 - 10:00 Hike, sweat, use all muscles, enjoy scenery, swat bugs, skirt mud, jump logs, boulder-hop rivers.
